Frequent Questions

These are some common questions about our programs in general. If you have an additional question you would like answered, please contact us.

Q: How does Bravery Project help domestic abuse survivors?
A: We support them in several ways:

  • Empower survivors, giving them a voice, and promote healing.
  • Inspire someone who still suffers to seek help.
  • Represents all types of individuals and circumstances.
  • Offer a financial resource for higher education

Q: How does Bravery Project help the community?
A: We provide support in several ways:

  • Change public perception about abuse and increase education through art exhibits and presentations.
  • Offer solutions and prevention methods from the individual who experienced the crime.
  • Provide a collaborative resource for other organizations.
  • Motivate communities to stop abuse by taking action in various ways.

Q: How do I participate?
A: If you are a survivor or a surviving family member of a deceased victim, contact us. The process is broken down in to three parts:

  • Initial consultation on your story and portrait, sign a model waiver form, and schedule the sitting.
  • Three-hour portrait sitting, which can be done at your home or at neutral location. Photos are taken to complete the portrait. You will be contacted when the portrait is finished. You are required to write a one page narrative.
  • Final meeting where you view the finished portrait and receive an 8x10 copy for yourself. Email your narrative.

Q: What if I can't do the portrait sitting?
A: We can develop a 20 minute sketch and/or then take a number of reference photos. If you cannot make a sitting, photographs can be used as reference.

Q: Will I remain anonymous?
A: Absolutely. No identifying information is attached to the portraits unless you want otherwise. We can obscure identifying features if that is a concern.

Q: Can I change my mind?
A: Of course you can; this is all voluntary. All you have to do is notify us.

Q: Do you include deceased victims?
A: Yes. It is a way to honor them. The same schedule applies.

Q: Do you include animals and why?
A: Yes. Animals, like children, are used as pawns to control the victim. By including animals, we are showing people early warnings of human abuse.

Q: I live out of Arizona, can I participate?
A: Yes. The program can be customized to work with survivors who live anywhere.

Q: Is the art for sale?
A: The Bravery series is not for sale; however prints, cards, and additional works can be made for sale.
